Women in IT/ICT Sharing Experiences (WISE)

Women are significantly underrepresented in the field of information technology and computing. Women in IT/ICT Sharing Experiences was established to help make Florida State’s program the exception to the rule—and it is working. Thirty-two percent of Florida State’s information technology students are women as compared to eight percent nationally.

Throughout the year, WISE offers programs and activities that help young women prepare for a successful career in technology with opportunities for professional growth, networking and leadership by working with successful women who are IT business leaders.

The goals of WISE are to:

››  Provide professional events for members (guest speaker series, mentorship events, career days, internship opportunities and company tours);

››  Provide students opportunities for leadership (executive board, leadership roles and outreach to schools);

››  Facilitate links between Florida State and the local business/ technology community for our female students; and

››  Provide venues for social collaboration for students (bowling, picnics and pizza nights).

An annual gift to WISE makes a difference

WISE offers mentorship opportunities within the community of Tallahassee and within the female student body interested in IT fields. It’s important to have a group with the kind of support WISE offers in order to better prepare our female students to be fighting forces in a male-dominated field.
