STARS–Student Leadership Corps
Members of the Florida State University STARS–Student Leadership Corps focus on recruiting the next generation of IT professionals to Florida State University. Through these recruiting efforts, members become engaged in the IT profession. This engagement improves their academic performance and career opportunities.
Florida State’s STARS–SLC conducts many award-winning activities, such as:
›› Presenting to high school classes on the IT profession;
›› Hosting campus visits by regional high schools;
›› Judging competitions and presenting leaders, technology and college workshops at the Florida Technology Student Association Conference;
›› Mentoring K–12 students’ technology clubs;
›› Providing IT training for K–12 teachers;
›› Conducting the Florida Technology Student Association Leadership Conference; and
›› Producing videos on STARS– SLC and the IT profession.
STARS-SLC contributes significantly to our community through many events throughout the whole year while simultaneously promoting STEM- related fields to young women and minorities. Our workshops often focus on bringing in groups that are normally underrepresented in typical STEM fields and exposing them to different sectors of these areas. STARS-SLC hopes to encourage and enlighten young people about the diverse STEM-related careers.
